Holy face of Dick Cheney's friend, Batman! The pizza is off the charts!! I'd been looking for a decent pie in the Westmont/ Downer's Grove area and one of my wonderful students tried telling me about this place called Aurelio's... I didn't believe her... I usually do not trust young adults so much as to believe that their life experiences are sufficient enough to include dining at an appropriate number of pizza establishments in order to establish a proper baseline of truly good pizza. With that said, I am ashamed. After many months of disbelief, I finally caved and ordered one of their cheesy delights... Remarkable to say the least. To say the most: The stuffed spinach was soooo freakin great! Filled with garlic, cheese, spinach, a sauce that is boss, and love. The crust is soft and doughy but firm. You can't eat this without a fork (if I ever meet Jon Stewart...watch out, now!) I was so impressed with their work, I ordered some more the following week. This time we repeated the stuffed spinach but now added a thin crust cheese pizza... Oh Mah God If you, as I, did not think a simple thin cheese pizza could ever beat a stuffed spinach pie... you, my friend, are dead wrong. The garlic (again with the garlic!) seemed to be infused into the cheese and the cheese... I said, "THE CHEESE"... how can a cheese be so fantastic? Golden brown, firm but melted and chewy... This was BY FAR the best mother loving cheese pizza I have EVER had... EVER. I was kinda sad that I stuffed my gut with the spinach before I even tasted the cheesers. I could start rattling of pizzeria's I've been in but it wouldn't be fair to compare them to Aurelio's. They f#@ked it up for everybody. The bar has been raised... who's next? Did someone say,"bar"...

We had pasta with alfredo sauce, Cesar salad, and the original sandwich. The original sandwich was stuffed like a hot dog with salami, ham, and their special beef slices. The sandwich was very dry, and unfortunately had little to no taste compared with the average deli meat obtained from the grocery store. Bread was also soggy from heat of condensation as well as juices from meat. The salad was super salty, I guess from the parma cheese, but the over all taste was your typical caesar salad. It should be pointed out that this place is not meant to be for sit downs, as we were served plastic utensils, and paper plates. If you do come here stick to the pizza. Otherwise avoid the rest of the menu.

Aurelio's is a downtown Downers Grove institution with a super convenient location next to the Tivoli Theater and Downers Grove train station. I grew up in DG, so when I come home my parents - we alternate between Aurelio's (the thin crust), Angelo's (the thin crust, on the south side of the tracks), and Girodano's (the stuffed pizza). You'll like Angelo's thin crust pizza if you like a crispy cracker-like crust and a generous amount of cheese, toppings and italian spices (oregano?) on top. Very flavorful pizza. The cheese is "just melted" (I prefer my cheese to be golden bubbly) which creates sort of a mushy top. The pizza tastes great reheated the next day in a pan (but in the microwave, the crust disappears and it's all squishy like you're eating mouthfuls of cheese). Go ahead, order a pizza, and pick it up on your way through downtown. Not the cheapest, not the best pizza, but certainly tasty.

Went for a quick lunch between dr appointments. Ended up getting salad, and pizzas with bad tomatoes, after waiting for about 20 minutes. Had to wait for another20 minutes while they replaced the order. Got late for the appointment. The new pizza was fine. Since we had hungry kids we were stuck and ended up getting late. The staff was nice but inexperienced in that the younger staff running the pizza lines seemed to have no idea about checking ingredients before using them -normally when you get a whiff of the tomatoes you should realize if they are going bad. Everything worked out eventually, albeit a little late

I love pizza. Tried it from here for the first time and I must say I am impressed. I order a thin crust pizza and It was really good, the sauce was amazing and just overall was delicious. but their cheese sticks were alright, marinara wasnt the best. It is a little pricey but definitely worth it for the pizza. I will order from here again when I can afford to spend a bit more money on pizza.

Always like the pizza but the service is horrible called in the pizza order 45 minutes ago and then when I got there she gave me an excuse that the pizza driver did not show up then I am waiting in the car to pick up the pizza and the delivery driver shows up and goes with his case into the restaurant I guess she lied to me she was sitting there talking with her girlfriends when I walked in and the pizza was not even started so I had to come back again 15 minutes later to pick up the pizza

I ordered 3 pies for a birthday party and all 3 were very dry and too salty. Even kids didn't want to eat it, how terrible it was. We will avoid this place by all means. P.S. I usually do not review, had to sign in to put my 2 cents. Hope this helps

This pizza shop is too cute. It's old school and I saw someone in the kitchen actually punch a time sheet. (Whoa.) My fiancee and I each had a slice and drink for under 12 bucks. The pizza is flavorful. They have two tables for dining in and they're right next to a big picture window that looks out onto the Metra train station.

We love their pizza! We only get delivery and we know we are rather far from them, but they still deliver. It's worth the wait. The drivers are always very friendly and the pizza is excellent!

I feel bad giving a one star since its a DG staple and their thin crust is pretty good for those who like a sweeter sauce. I just cant give over a one star for how nasty their stuffed is. Seriously....did someone lose the recipe?!? Super soggy, waaaaay too much sauce, so gross. No cohesiveness at all...tasted like a bowl of spaghetti with smashed up bread. Please take this off the menu.

Coworker needed some pizzas for a work lunch, so he sent us here - - naturally wanted something better than just a "chain" pizza for the clients. This location opened up at 11, so we only had to wait a minute or two and then went inside to order. Small location inside w a few tables, but i liked that they already had some slices to go available right at opening. We ordered probably like 9 pizzas or so and then just waited inside. But I couldn't wait, so naturally got a slice right away - - i think it was sausage & cheese. Very good! The crust was perfect... not too thick, nor thin. And...if you order pizza for take out there's a cute little Aurelio's pizza shield you can punch out. (or not)

This year the only thing I asked for on my birthday was an Aurelio's Super Six pizza. Best. Birthday. Ever.

After going to a movie at the Tivoli, I could not pass up stopping into the cute pizza place next-door! Wow- what a treat! Step inside and you are immediately taken back to a golden time of family-owned pizzerias. I had a slice of cheese pizza for a little over $2 and it was excellent! I loved the atmosphere. Service was great- everyone was very nice. I will definitely be returning! What a special gem to eat in and have a great slice! YUM :)

Hard to find a good pizza place in Lombard...Discovered Aurelios over the summer....Not bad... Two pizza slices and a can of Soda $4.99! Can't beat that!!! The sauce is very good, but the meats may need a bit more seasoning.

I JUST LOVE AURELIO'S!! I have been eating at different locations since I was a young teen. Tinley Park, Frankfort, Woodridge, Downers, Chicago you get my point. :) All of the locations are consistent on their pizzas and service. I just love the sauce, crust everything about them. Keep in mind the one located next door to one of my FAVORITE theaters the Tivoli has maybe two small tables. It is more of a take out location. When I do eat pizza I usually go for the thin crust and the thin crust at Aurelio's is the best! They have good pasta dishes as well. They now give you a card for your key chain (like everywhere these days-lol) that gives you reward points. I get email alerts for discounts, coupons etc. I will continue to support and be a fan of them as long as they are around. :) Cheers!

When you're broke you can beat two slices and a can of pop for five bucks! They even had veggie slices...who does that? Awesomeness! Great crust - not too thick and not too thin. Fresh, not canned, veggies and flavor cheese and sauce. Just plain really good pizza!

Always a quality pizza! If you're all about the sauce, this is the place for you. My favorite pizza in all of Chicago (and, so it goes without saying...the world!).

We order delivery or pick-up EVERY Sunday for Breaking Bad, Mad Men and The Walking Dead. Basically we find an excuse to order Auerlio's. It's THAT good.

I love their pizza! And I love that you can walk in and just get a slice. There have been many stops here as I was getting off the train after a late night!

I last had Aurelio's pizza 25 years ago when I lived in Downers Grove. Since I moved away, I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. So, after years of thinking, "I need to go back there when I'm visiting," I finally did. I can't believe how closely the pizza I just had matches the ones in my memory. (How often does that happen?!) I had a 10" pepperoni, and it was delicious. The owner's brother told me that, in the last 25 years, only the sauce had changed; they went from on-site homemade to a chain-wide sauce. Although the "new" sauce is not quite as distinctive as before, it seems very close. Even better: It's the crust I've been yearning for, and this pie did not disappoint. Nostalgia aside, this is simply really good pizza -- and it doesn't taste like every other pizza you've eaten. The only downside -- at least to this specific location -- is that delivery or carry out is pretty much the only option here; there are just two tables on-site, with total seating for eight (plus however many could cram onto a windowseat/banquette). Note: After reading some reviews here -- and seeing things for myself -- I will say that "pizza by the slice" is NOT the way to sample Aurelio's best work. On my visit -- late afternoon on a Sunday -- these slices looked warmed over, dried out, and very unappetizing. Don't be swayed by convenience; order a small, personal pizza (if you don't want much), grab a soda from the cooler, have a seat, and wait for them to make you a fresh pie. Better: Order a larger size and have the cold leftovers the next day.

Absolutely disgusting and disappointing. So gross. Don't do it. Please people, heed my warning........ Don't do it!! You will be so mad when this pizza arrives, and you open the box to take a look. I wanted to cry when I saw this BS pizza. Chucky Cheese is better then this stuff. And they are over priced too. And they wouldn't let me return that impostor of a pizza or get my money back! Super wack and nasty. Shame on you Aurelio's!

By far my favorite pizza in the world!!!! Hands down! I always get the "super six" with extra sauce & well done. Thin crust. Try it!

We stopped in to the pick up area before a movie at the Tivoli. We had never been here before so called ahead because we wanted to make sure they sold by the slice at dinnertime. It was a Friday night and yet the pizza looked like it had been sitting there for a week. The person behind the counter took it out with her hands even though she was running the cash register. The pizza was barely warm and looked kind of like 7-11 food! There were two tables that were full, and so we ended up sitting on a bench in the breezeway eating on our lap. They gave us paper plates from the grocery store. Weird experience. Disappointing!

Last night after a long crazy Halloween day I decided to make a pit stop to Aurelio's because it was convenient, deserted and on my way home. When I walked in I was annoyed that they didn't have a menu displayed. The snotty woman behind the counter stared at me as I took all of 10 seconds to place my order (a slice of pizza & an order of mozzarella sticks). The total was almost ten dollars! The cheese sticks alone are $6.95 (for 7 cheese sticks? Are you serious?) She handed me my pizza to go and told me the cheese sticks would be a few minutes. I sat down and waited, and waited, and waited. After 15 min enough was enough. I got up and asked where my cheese sticks were. The woman seemed confused, asked a pubescent teen the same question then bent down and took the finished bag out of a fridge and mumbled 'sorry'. REALLY?? I am NEVER coming back here again. Oh and the pizza tasted just like a frozen box of Red Baron's, cheap and cold.

Attempted to order a pizza just before 10:30pm, and they refused my order. Said they already put everything away. I can appreciate wanting to leave early, but if you are open until 11pm, are you really going to pack up half an hour before you close and just sit around on your hands for half an hour? Everyone there should be fired for being lazy. I will not be patronizing this establishment ever again.

Hands down Awesome. The spicy sauce not hot but spicy. The meats are fantastic the cheese could not be more perfect in proportion to the rest of the pie. The crust is slightly crispy and turned up on the edges not overwhelmingly greasy. Awesome as breakfast the next morning cold. Reheats best in the oven or pizza oven. I am usually not a fan of this style of pizza I like lou malanatis deep dish style. But for a thin/ hand tossed this was very tasty, been in the area for six years. This is the best pizza, I am definately getting another pizza this time with veggies. *** update*** Ordered again this time with six toppings same crust and awesome sauce veggies were very nice! Garlic bread is soo tasty! Six pack of mountain dew in cans the only soda I like in cans. I love the square cut too, oooh and coupons for 50 cents with each pizza save em and get a free pizza!

We moved to DG this past summer, and have tried a few pizza places and this is by far our favorite thin crust pizza. Right amount of cheese and toppings, crunchy thin crust. And I really like the sauce. We thought we liked Papa Passeros until we tried Aurelios. Papa Passero's has too much cheese and much less flavor.

I am writing this review as I am steaming mad...which, ironically...my pizza was not. I have had a horrible day..seriously horrible. The only hope I had for saving this day was the fact that I was going to order Aurelios tonight. My husband is not home...he usually orders the pizza and orders (smartly) from somewhere else. But, tonight...I was ordering..and I was ordering my (former) favorite pizza, Aurelios! My subdivision is only 2 years old, so sometimes it can be hard to find. So, I made sure to tell the person who took my order EXACTLY where we were located, including the nearest intersection. This information clearly didn't make it to the delivery driver (Thanks Patrick). After an hour and 15 minutes, I called and was told, "It should be there momentarily." An hour and 45 minutes later, my pizza arrived cold. The driver was unapologetic. He didn't even try to call us to get directions. We also ordered the buffalo chicken salad....what a joke. It had like 5 pieces of some prepackaged buffalo chicken that someone half heartedly warmed up and threw on our salad. Take my advice, pass on that if you are considering it. In High School, I used to work at the flagship location in Homewood. Trust me, I highly doubt this is the service that Joe Aurelio intended. You have lost a loyal customer. I will never order from this location again. Lou Malnati's just gained a lifelong customer :)

Very tasty and quick for a pickup on a Saturday night. I thought the sauce and sausage were especially good as they were distinctively flavorful but not beyond what I would call untraditional. Some of the best thin crust pizza I've had.

  • Nathan W.

Ok, I LOVE deep dish/stuffed pizza just as much as every other Chicagoan, but Aurelios pizza is just killer. Their sauce has this great tomato taste that's the perfect combination of sweet and tangy. My mouth is whetting as I write this review because I haven't had an Aurelio's pie in over a year. I grew up with this stuff and tried the Harrison location in Chicago as well. The Downers Grove location which I believe is one of the originals, is the better location to go to. Every time I've been, my food has been hot and fresh and DELISH. You can even get your thin crust pie in a party cut or slices. Now I'm hungry :(

  • Stefanie W.

Wow - I usually do not like thin crust pizza - but Aurelio's manages to overcome everything I don't like about it. Not too greasy - I didn't have to use a roll of paper towels to sop up the excess - and plenty of really delicious sauce! Yum! I've only had delivery to a work site, but I'll make it a point to stop in one day.

  • R C.

Very consistent, and good quality pizza. In Chicago, these are the minimum requirements for consideration. I prefer their sauce, which is sweet and light with a nice crisp crust. Disclaimer; I worked at Giordano's for 4 years and prefer the Aurelio's thin or the Giordano's stuffed to other Chicago Pizza's. And BTW, how does Pizza Hut stay in business here anyway?
